The good, the bad, and the ugly.

For whatever reason, Apple is absolutely committed to trying to make sure their users can’t use their old phones to make money after they take them off-line. This makes no sense to me at all and drives me absolutely crazy.

There are a few ways that you can use an old iPhone or one that you’re using right now to mine cryptocurrency in a nontraditional sense. And no, I don’t mean by using cloud mining apps, which are mostly trash and are a scam. There are a few apps that you can use on an iPhone that will give you usable cryptocurrency from running in the background.

The best of these that I’ve discovered is Nodle. I run it on a few phones and I’m probably seeing a dollar so every three or four days. Compared to similarly powered machines that’s actually not too bad to put it in perspective. It’s about what most 30 series GPUs are doing right now. You can withdraw the coin and send it to an exchange and then Bridge to Solana very cheaply, which is very attractive to me.

The next app I will talk about is UpRock. To me it’s pretty crappy it’s kinda like the person you end up with at the neighborhood bar when you couldn’t find somebody better at somewhere cool. I run it on a few phones and get very little out of it. The token is real and you can actually turn it into actual money, so it is valid.

Now to the ugly. The next app I use on an iPhone is Acurast. This qualifies as what I would consider a hope amount. it does not pay you in a coin that is treatable right now. That means you’re committing resources to something that might not ever reward you. In general, I try to avoid these apps, but this one seems like it might actually hold promise. there’s not much else that you can do with the processor on an iPhone, so I just run it and hope for the best.

So those are three different ways you can use an iPhone to mine cryptocurrency. You can even do this with the current phone that you’re using just like I am right now while I compose this post the only thing stopping you from mining cryptocurrency is you right now.
